Take care of your delicates

StockSafe has been launched to aid the distribution of delicate items.

Practical Warehouse Solutions has released StockSafe – panels on three sides of pallets to protect stock.

The product is patent pending and is a response to the post recession environment in the logistics and distribution industry.

PWS says companies are under pressure to increase profitability. The firm argues this is particularly true of companies that provide services to those who are threatened by the rise of low cost retailers.

The StockSafe solution is said to be ideal for any organisation that distributes delicate and breakable products.

The product is said to save you money on stock damaged in the warehouse and help prevent the number of slip and trip accidents by reducing spillage.

The company says: “We know of one top five supermarket that suffers £116 million a year in damaged stock. There are also benefits in reduced cleaning and recoup costs. So, if there is a way to reduce this damage whilst fulfilling your duty of care to staff, it is a productive investment.”

Furthermore, the firm argues the average timeoff taken by an employee follwing a slip or trip accident is seven days at an estimated cost of £500 million a year. According to the Health and Safety Executive slip and trip accidents are the most frequently reported incidents in the logistics and distribution industry.

The company says StockSafe appears deceptively simple and is the result of years of design, prototype, improvement and patenting. It sits permanently within the select ready to receive the pallet. It isn’t attached to the pallet so delivery of product to the select takes no longer than previously. It ensures that stock protected on three sides.

The side panels adjust to the angle at which the pallet is delivered, so, if the pallet is delivered a little to the left or to the right StockSafe moves to accommodate it. In addition it has a strong metal frame to withstand the rigours of a modern warehouse.

StockSafe’s Swedish designer Gunnar Svahn has in depth experience of logistics and also a background in engineering. He observed how stock was damaged during the picking process and set about designing a solution. He is also working on a method of creating up to 30% more selects in the warehouse without increasing the square footage.
