At the heart of the nation

It is fitting that an issue so central to good business – health and safety – has found its home at the NEC in the heart of the nation. The Health and Safety Event is in its second year and will take place from 24-26 March 2015.

For this first time, the Safer Logistics Seminar Theatre and Feature Area will form a crucial part of the exhibition.

The feature area is sponsored by Toyota Material Handling UK and Alcumus. Toyota Material Handling UK offers a comprehensive range of quality new and used Toyota forklift trucks and BT warehouse equipment including pallet trucks, national service support, short and long-term rental solutions, fleet management and genuine parts as well as forklift training.

Alcumus offers risk management solutions – from simple one-off training packages through to strategic risk management strategies to wide range of industry sectors including transport & logistics.

Confirmed industry supporters for the event include the Fork LIft Truck Association (FLTA), the Food Storage & Distribution Federation (FSDF), and the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA).

Speakers confirmed already include Ruth Waring FCILT: Managing Director, Labyrinth Consulting who will present a talk on Preventing Loading Bay Drive-Aways on March 25 (Day 2): from 11.20-11.50.

Drive-aways occur when a docked lorry typically moves off with someone still on the back of the vehicle. In this session, transport industry veteran Ruth Waring will share her sector experience, much of it gleaned through the Labyrinth Consulting Safety Circle, to help attendees understand and prevent these often fatal incidents. The Safety Circle is run for logistics professionals who share safety experience under ‘Chatham House’ rules.

This is a key issue as shown by frequent accidents, such as the recent serious incident at DHL.

The driver was connecting a trailer to his cab at DHL Express (UK)’s Dunstable depot at the start of his shift when the vehicle moved. He was run over after he tripped and fell while attempting to catch up with the cab to stop it hitting and injuring a pedestrian or nearby property. Read more here – http://bit.ly/1u1yS60
