Efficient and low carbon

National supplier of LPG AvantiGas, is ramping up its work with distribution and logistics companies to offer a low carbon, high strength and economical fuel alternative for fork lift trucks.

AvantiGas, which has been established since 2011, supplies bulk LPG installations to commercial customers throughout the UK. The company has two strategic supply points at Ellesmere Port in the North West and Mossmorran in Fife which then services 15 supply points across a national distribution network.

LPG’s popularity for powering fork lift trucks, as an alternative to diesel and electricity, is something that AvantiGas has seen a recent rise in: “A considerable proportion of the LPG we supply to commercial customers is used to fuel fork lift trucks: we definitely feel it’s a growth area for our business,” said Liam Rothwell, area sales manager, at AvantiGas.

“The main reason LPG is becoming such an attractive choice for logistics companies that have fork lift truck operations are its low carbon qualities and also its far-reaching efficiencies both in terms of cost and time saving.

“Another of LPG’s notable qualities is its high calorific value which means that LPG-fuelled fork lift trucks can carry heavy loads without compromising on power or speed.”

LPG produces significantly less air pollutants and carbon dioxide than most other fuels: carbon emissions not only affect global warming but also present health issues for those that are in close and regular contact. Fork lift trucks powered by LPG emit much fewer harmful bi-products meaning staff are able to work in a cleaner, healthier environment. The risk of spillage and contamination is also considerably lessened with LPG in comparison to other fuel sources like diesel.

Fork lift trucks that run on LPG also operate indoors and outdoors which means the need for two separate types of fuel is eliminated.

In addition, LPG-fuelled fork lift trucks generate less noise and vibrations, unlike diesel-fuelled trucks, which in turn creates a better working environment for operators.

LPG is a cheaper alternative diesel so presents a cost-efficient way of fuelling large and small fleets of fork lift trucks, giving customers much greater value for money over the long term.

AvantiGas supplies its LPG in bulk storage tanks on-site. Having the fuel readily available like this means that costs in the operational department are reduced too as the frequency that drivers have to stop to refuel is much less.

Having LPG stored on-site as opposed to in gas cylinders eliminates the need for manual handling which conversely saves time and reduces risk of injury. AvantiGas’ bulk supply system allows for the cylinder to stay on the truck and this is then refilled with a pump from the bulk installation.

The tanks are installed, topped up and serviced by AvantiGas meaning the customer has a minimal maintenance role to play, all contributing to higher efficiency levels on-site.

Firms looking to switch their fuel supply from diesel or electricity to LPG, or from another LPG supplier to AvantiGas, will receive bespoke support from AvantiGas’ dedicated team of engineers and project managers throughout the installation and maintenance process.

Liam finished by saying: “The feedback we are getting from our warehousing and logistics customers is that switching to LPG-fuelled trucks has been a good business decision both in terms of the efficiencies it brings and the improved outputs for its operators. One of the over-riding things we hear is that having LPG supplied in bulk and having the tanks serviced by AvantiGas drivers brings welcome reassurance and peace of mind, something that helps every kind of business run smoothly.”
