Compelling business case

At Rick Bestwick a key part of the company philosophy is reducing the environmental impact of the cold chain. In line with this way of thinking, the company has recently spent £600,000 on the latest LED lighting to cut energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint.

“The business case for using LED lighting in the warehouse is compelling,” says Kevin Hancock, managing director at Rick Bestwick. “Key advantages include the long service life, excellent reliability and performance of LEDs compared with conventional lighting, which can reduce costly maintenance and waste disposal bills. They also improve light quality making it easier to identify products, significantly reduce energy consumption and can cut energy bills by up to 80%.

“The LED lighting that we have installed in the freezers uses 25% less energy than the previously installed fluorescent strip lighting which provides us with a number of benefits. As well as providing a better quality of light at lower operating costs, the LEDs are cool to the touch. This means our refrigeration systems don’t have to work as hard to maintain low temperatures in the cold stores.”
