Hörmann MD’s charitable exploits secure £3,000 for good causes

David Newcombe, managing director of Hörmann (UK) Ltd, has raised over £3,000 for two charities after completing the Great North Run and a 350 mile cycle ride in the space of just a week.

Securing more than £1,600 for Leicestershire charity Hope Against Cancer, David joined 73 other cyclists for the Italian Job challenge, traversing the Alps from Lake Geneva to Milan in four days. The riders took part in a daily live link-up with BBC Radio Leicester, updating listeners on their progress over the course of the route.

After returning to the UK with very tired legs, David headed up to Tyneside to run 13.1 miles for Hörmann’s charity of the year, Alzheimer’s Society.

David commented: “I was absolutely exhausted after the Hope Italian Job cycle and I really wasn’t sure how I’d get on in the Great North Run. It was extremely tough but I was determined to complete it for Alzheimer’s Society.”

Hörmann selected the charity as its partner in late 2014, after David lost his father to vascular dementia. Staff have taken part in a range of fundraising activities over the last few months, including a bake off competition, IT auction and the Farmageddon obstacle run in Melton Mowbray.

David added: “I’m extremely proud of the efforts Hörmann staff have made to get behind this charity partnership. Everyone has been so supportive and enthusiastic about getting involved. Dementia affects so many people, so it’s easy to see how important the work of Alzheimer’s Society is.”

This month, Hörmann will be donating £50 to Alzheimer’s Society for every sectional or RollMatic garage door, SPU F42 and SB Roller Shutter sold from 5-9 October.
