Fast doors for deep freeze areas
Efaflex high-speed doors have been installed with a major frozen food processor and distributor who supply two of the largest high street supermarkets.
The project was managed by a specialist construction company who facilitated the installation of three SST-L ECO doors, with opening speeds of up to 2 metres per second. The installation formed part of a new ambient and chill warehouse extension.
The client had previously used a variety of fabric speed doors, but chose Efaflex to maintain critical temperature control between the ambient and chilled food areas. Darren Turrell, Efaflex general manager stated: "We offer the first truly single door solution for deep freeze areas, to provide both the fastest operational speeds, coupled the best insulation for spiral doors; they are practically hermetically sealed."
He went on to say: "It’s a delicate balancing act for chilled and frozen food processors; that of maintaining consistent temperatures and reducing the impact of ambient areas. Our energy-efficient doors are engineered to the highest quality and feature frames and laths to help substantially reduce energy costs, creating constant climate conditions in deep- freeze units."
Contact surface heaters are employed throughout the whole door and integrated into the seals and contact bar resulting in a U value down to 0.74 W/m²K, and operational temperatures between plus and minus 30°C. The TK series features 100mm thermally insulated laths and can be matched to any RAL colour.
The doors are designed for up to 200,000 operational cycles per year.
