Bespoke boiler housings

Heathrow Bakery has accelerated its expansion programme by investing in bespoke containerised boiler housings supplied by S Jones Containers, specialists in containerised solutions.

Adams Bakery, trading as Heathrow Bakery, supplies baked goods for the airline and prepared meal industry, producing 2million rolls per week.

When they recently needed a bespoke boiler housing in a hurry to cope with expansion, they turned to S Jones Containers for the answer.

S Jones Containers has supplied three modified containers as custom-made enclosures for a Babcock steam boiler and Heuft oil boilers.

Heathrow Bakery general manager David Taylor explained: “We were searching for someone who could provide a cost-effective bespoke enclosure in a very short time.

We couldn’t put the boilers inside our current buildings and so custom-made enclosures were the answer to our problem.

He continued: “Steam from the Babcock boiler is required for the baking process in the proofer to raise the bread and in the oven to control the yeast and create shine on the crust.

The other container enclosure is for the oil heaters which heat the ovens.”

S Jones Containers supplied two 40’ high cube units joined together to create a double-width clear-span enclosure, and one 20’ unit for the bespoke bakery boiler housings.

Challenges in this particular project included the double width aspect which required the joining of two 40’ units with a standard method adopted by S Jones, together with a structural steel support for a water tank over the top of the units and safe access on the roof.

David Taylor said the containerised solution allowed their engineers to be more efficient in the maintenance of the equipment.

From the moment we approached them, S Jones were superb from the inquiry through design to the final product delivered to site.

The team provided design and support with very good technical advice for all three of the containers supplied. The whole process was handled professionally and competently throughout and we now have three containers in place as per the design drawing and exactly for the purpose required,” he said.
