Espex to introduce lithium-ion product

A module and battery pack assembly line is expected to be operational by Q2 2019.

Espex is well known for its supply of lead-acid batteries, a core product in serving the UK’s logistics and distribution industries.

The company says: “But it would be foolish to ignore lithium-ion entirely; that’s why our parent company – Exide Industries – has entered into a joint venture to produce just such batteries. A module and battery pack assembly line is expected to be operational by Q2 2019 and a lithium-ion cell production plant is expected to be in operation by mid 2020. In the intervening period, cells will be sourced from Leclanché’s plant in Willstätt, Germany.”

Espex Batteries has also engaged in a number of core business projects aimed at reducing response time and meeting the higher efficiency demanded by businesses across the UK.

Espex is stocking products in depots strategically located in Bradford and the West Midlands. Bradford is designed to provide quick service response to customers in Northern England and going up to Glasgow.

The Midlands depot serves faster delivery of products and service in the Midlands and Manchester areas.

The company says: “The new headquarters is in Barry, South Wales, just outside Cardiff and close to road, air, sea and rail links – is an ideal location for Espex Batteries to open a large new state-of-the-art office and warehouse complex.”

The 15,000 sq ft warehouse can hold up to 30,000 traction cells and associated parts and accessories. In addition the 10,000 sq ft concrete floor open yard and 5,000 sq ft office space overlook the Bristol Channel, creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting clients.

New sales manager

After 13 years of loyal service, Kristian Shapley’s proactive approach, product knowledge and boundless energy have been rewarded with a promotion to sales manager. Along with his talented sales team strategically stationed in Cardiff, Northampton and Harrogate, Kristian will oversee the UK and Ireland markets.

Quality standards

Espex has upgraded its management system to the latest version – ISO9001:2015.

“We’ve long been proud of our reputation for customer service,” comments chief executive of Expex Batteries, Amit Ghosal. “But our aim is to 100% be the best in the industry. It’s important for us that our customers are not just satisfied but delighted; we reward their loyalty with a friendly and flexible approach that we’re now able to back up with class-leading facilities that prove our forward-looking attitude to our business and the industry as a whole.”
