Metal stockholder invests in retractable tunnel

When Kloeckner Metals needed storage for steel marine plates at their Exeter site last year, Aganto Temporary Buildings was contacted to find a suitable solution.

Tim Lumb, project leader at Kloeckner Metals looked to increase stockholding so a next-day delivery service could be offered. Three 10-metre-long retractable tunnels linked end to end were proposed to store the plates.

Tim explains: “We chose Aganto as they were more competitive on cost. The delivery was also better than the other quotes.”

The tunnel units were installed within a single day by Aganto’s in-house team. Pneumatic tyres enabled the structure to be easily located with no foundations, on sloping tarmac. Since installation, the retractable sections has improved the accessibility of the stock via forklift truck, and the robust PVC cover and aluminium frame has kept stock secure and protected against the weather.

“The tunnel has been completely fit for purpose, and 10 months on – it still looks smart,” adds Mark Howard, operations manager, Kloeckner Metals.
