Get into the groove

The Workplace Depot has teamed up with a music licensing organisation to share how playing music helps them stay in tune.

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE BASED business, The Workplace Depot, have been getting into the groove in recent weeks by working with music licensing organisation, PPL PRS to share why playing music is important to their business.

The industrial and workplace stockist based in Bingham, just outside of Nottingham, have teamed up with PPL PRS, the company who issue TheMusicLicence to businesses who use music, to create a video and Q&A about the positive effects music has on their team.

The company, who have 25 staff members, use music throughout their business, including in their two warehouses, as well as in their office space.

After using music for several years, they believe music is essential for boosting staff morale and improving the overall working environment, particularly for their warehouse teams who manage their 20,000+ product range.

Mikey Dahdah, Warehouse Operative at The Workplace Depot says: “When we’re working, the first thing we do is put the radio on, it gives everyone a bit of energy in the morning. On Friday, when it’s my turn to pick, I like to play party music, quite upbeat music, just to get ready for the weekend. I feel like it would definitely be a whole different atmosphere at work if there wasn’t any music because obviously it’s just a lot quieter, it just doesn’t feel right.”

The multi award-winning business, who were recently shortlisted as Employer of the Year 2024 at the Lloyds Bank British Business Excellence Awards, take pride in creating an excellent employee experience and wanted to work with PPL PRS, to share the positive impact playing music has on their staff, as well as highlight to other businesses the importance of being correctly licensed.

Under The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, permission is needed from the relevant copyright holders in order to use music.

TheMusicLicence gives businesses this permission, in relation to the vast majority of commercially available music, ranging from grassroots and independent artists and composers through to the biggest names in the business.

David Barnes, Head of Marketing at The Workplace Depot said: “Music is very important to our mental wellbeing and productivity at The Workplace Depot. We wanted to work with PPL PRS to show our appreciation for the music industry and demonstrate how easy it is to organise our licence!”
