Travis Perkins has been ordered to demolish a warehouse in Bolton which the Council said had been built without planning permission.

THE PLANNING Inspectorate upheld the order put in place by the council describing the facility as ‘jarring’ and in ‘stark contrast’ to other brick built buildings in the vicinity.
The new facility used for storage is grey clad with 20m eaves and was built to replace a previous brick-built warehouse that had to be demolished for safety reasons. However, proposals for the replacement were not approved by the council but Travis Perkins went ahead anyway with the construction of the facility, which was then deemed to have been built without planning consent.
In 2023 the council demanded that the new facility be demolished. Travis Perkins appealed.
In appeal documents, the compnay argued that the new warehouse ‘is essential for the viability of the business and to support construction activity in the area’.
The Planning Inspectorate upheld the enforcement action from Bolton Counicl and Travis Perkins now has 90 days to comply. The company is looking to review the appeal decision and its next steps.
