Police called to fight at Wincanton-run mega DC

Staffordshire Police arrested a man after a fight broke out between workmates at B&Q’s one-million sq ft Fulfilment Centre in Burton-on-Trent, which is run by Wincanton.

Wincanton secured the multi-million pound, multi-channel distribution contract with B&Q in 2012.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “Our control room received a call reporting a suspected assault. A patrol car in the area was dispatched to the scene to investigate further.

“Upon arrival they found that a man had been left injured as a result of the incident. He was taken to Burton’s Queen’s Hospital for assessment and was later released following treatment. Following interviews at the scene, officers arrested a 26-year-old male on suspicion of an assault. He was interviewed and was later released with no further action.

“It has now been confirmed to that both parties will be making no further complaint regarding the matter.”

A spokesperson for Wincanton said: “Two of our colleagues were involved in an incident at the distribution centre on Burton Road, Branston.

“In line with our usual policies, we are currently undertaking our own internal investigation. With a 12 year history in Burton on Trent, we are a major employer in the area and have around 700 colleagues based at the site.”

The facility houses the B&Q’s kitchen, bathroom and bedroom ranges and it is estimated around nine million cases of merchandise is handled per annum by the DC, with Wincanton also planning transport routes for B&Q, fulfilling approximately 500,000 customer orders per annum.
