Cummins to unveil smallest QSF engines
Cummins will display its latest compact engines at CeMAT, providing a power solution for forklifts, telehandlers and other small material-handling equipment.
The QSF family is the smallest in Cummins extensive range. The QSF2.8 and QSF3.8 are set to make a big impression at CeMAT. Offering up to 98 kW (132 hp), they are making their premiere in the material-handling industry on the Cummins stand.

The QSF2.8 engine, with 37 kW to 55 kW (49-74 hp), is a 4-cylinder, 2.8-litre engine with a fully passive Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) aftertreatment system, meeting European Union (EU) Stage IIIB and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 Final low-emissions regulations. It is the smallest engine to be introduced by Cummins with full-authority electronic controls driving a High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) fuel system. That capability brings the premium performance characteristics associated with larger Cummins engines to compact equipment below 56 kW (75 hp) for the first time.
Cummins electronics drive the HPCR system to enable multiple fuel injection events with over 1600-bar (23,200 psi) pressure capability, achieving cleaner combustion with improved fuel efficiency. All key engine parameters are constantly monitored, and engine performance is optimised according to equipment operating conditions.
The aftertreatment has been specifically developed by Cummins for applications meeting the EU and EPA latest emissions regulations for under 56 kW (75 hp), having a maintenance-free, “fit and forget” system ideally suited for use in rental equipment. Without the catalyst, the same QSF2.8 base engine meets all other emissions requirements, including Stage IIIA, to provide a single, global platform for all applications.
The QSF3.8 engine, with a power output extending from 63 kW to 98 kW (85-132 hp), is ready to meet Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emissions regulations. The 3.8-litre engine redefines the meaning of 4-cylinder compact material-handling power by delivering an unprecedented combination of performance and durability, with economical operation.
The QSF3.8 simplifies Stage IV integration in a wide range of equipment, meeting near-zero emissions standards with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)-only aftertreatment system. With particulate matter (PM) reduction focused in-cylinder, the QSF3.8 avoids the need for either a DOC or a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The innovative SCR-only system features an extra-high-efficiency catalyst able to convert oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions at lower exhaust temperatures while requiring only low dosing levels of AdBlue.
The higher efficiency of the SCR-only aftertreatment also reduces the amount of cooled exhaust gas being recirculated by the engine, with a corresponding reduction in engine loading and cooling demand. The lighter flow Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system enables the performance potential of the QSF3.8 to be fully realised, with the 98 kW (132 hp) output leading the below 4-litre engine class. Peak torque of 488 Nā¢m (360 lb-ft) is effortlessly delivered by the simple but effective Cummins wastegated turbocharger used for all QSF3.8 ratings. Stand E09, Hall 25.
