Debate to discuss the future of HGVs

SUPPLY CHAIN and logistics consultancy SCALA has announced the details of its 19th Annual Supply Chain Debate.

The debate, taking place on the 12th July, will tackle the burning question of whether logistics fleets should move towards hydrogen or electric-powered vehicles. The speakers include David Cebon, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Cambridge University, who will be joined by William Rowe, founder and CEO of Octopus Hydrogen and Justin Laney, fleet manager at John Lewis Partnership.

Held at the Møller Institute in Cambridge, the debate will be hosted by SCALA director Rob Wright. The event promises to be an informative session, expecting over 100 senior supply chain professionals in attendance.

The debate marks the return of one of the major events in the supply chain calendar. This year experts will be gathering in-person for the first time since 2019 to discuss the major issues affecting the supply chain sector because of the move towards a net-zero future.

SCALA managing director John Perry, said: “In many ways the country is at a crossroads. We must choose a better way to power our vehicles and invest in the infrastructure that surrounds the new form of transportation to make it a viable option. The question we first need to answer is, what form is that transport going to take?

“The debate speakers are the leading experts and will be providing insights from independent academic, commercial, and operational perspectives. This is a great opportunity for us to understand all the factors involved from highly knowledgeable experts in our sector”.
