Specialist packaging for automotive industry

Posted on Monday 25 November 2024

Twinplast, a leading manufacturer of bespoke corrugated polypropylene solutions, is targeting growth in the automotive industry with the development of specialist packaging for vehicle components.

THE COMPANY is utilising its in-house technical team and advanced factory facilities to supply custom solutions for the secure transportation of a range of fragile, heavy-duty and high-value items in the same package. Each container features outer casing made from high-density polypropylene for robust and highly impact-resistant protection, along with bespoke inners specifically shaped to minimise the movement of the individual items in combination.

Tim Steer, commercial director at Twinplast, said: “Twinplast’s ability to supply bespoke design and manufacturing puts us in a very strong position to develop business in the automotive supply chain, which is heavily reliant on custom packaging to protect industrial components – standardised and uniform packaging cannot adapt to the complex form, weight variation and vulnerabilities of various automotive parts in combination. We work in consultation with clients to develop space-efficient packaging that reduces the risk of damage in transit and ensures that components are delivered in optimum condition. Corrugated polypropylene is an extremely versatile material that can form almost limitless shapes, enabling designs which minimise or eliminate movement within a package, as well as being lighter in weight compared to other commonly used materials, thereby reducing transportation costs.”

Toby Garrett, managing director at Twinplast, said: “Many companies in the automotive supply chain rely on just-in-time manufacturing to reduce inventory costs, increase efficiency, and reduce the risk of overproduction. Precision packaging is therefore essential to ensure that products are delivered without delays caused by damage. Our custom solutions serve that demand while being reusable and recyclable through normal recycling channels, supporting automotive companies in achieving their carbon reduction targets. We have already developed some highly successful solutions on behalf of major luxury car manufacturers and this area of our business is likely to experience substantial growth in the coming years.”

Twinplast offers the widest range of corrugated polypropylene products in the market. The company supplies major UK businesses and organisations across a wide range of sectors including FMCG, retail, horticultural, construction, industrial, healthcare, packaging, logistics and pharmaceutical.
