Stock picking enhanced
10 March 2023
French clothing producer and retailer Kiabi is implementing a Dematic automated solution to enhance its stock picking processes.

THE CONTRACT calls for Dematic to supply a fully automated system run with Dematic software. Initially, the solution is to consist of 12 multishuttle lanes equipped with ergonomic goods-to-person (GTP) stations and a handling system.
The 66,000 sq m site is scheduled to complete in 2024. The facility was initially automated by another provider with Dematic brought in to supplement the current set-up in terms of its eComm business, including apparel for the entire family and other products dedicated to the company’s online business.
According to Kiabi, Dematic’s flexible omnichannel solution was a strong reason for the selection of the warehouse automation and software specialist. Dematic’s solution makes it possible to feed both the eComm and store flows in an optimised and agile way.
Kiabi’s supply chain director Marine Pomart, explains: “This new installation means that we can increase our preparation and distribution capacities five-fold for our web and local collections in Northern Europe. The choice of Dematic was based on the quality of the solution they proposed, which was worked on at length in the pre-sales phase by the Dematic teams.
“The agile solution is also capable of navigating web preparation constraints, store and reserve storage in the defined requirements. Finally, its evolution allows us to meet our growth challenges and our stated vision in the medium and short term.”
Reduce errors
IN a separate project, plumbing and heating supplier Dianflex selected a Dematic solution featuring an AutoStore system to automate and enhance several of its logistics processes.
Specifically, the Italian-based Dianflex had a goal to improve it service to customers and chose Dematic to make picking operations more flexible, reduce warehouse space in use, improve picking times and cut down on errors.
Dianflex general manager Gianluca Di Mieri, says: “We had complete trust in Dematic because we assessed and perceived a competence and professionalism that we had previously not encountered. The attention to customer needs and the operator expertise are strong indicators of why they are a company at the forefront of the intralogistics industry”, says Di Mieri.
“This new installation means that we can increase our preparation and distribution capacities five-fold for our web and local collections in Northern Europe.”
The project implementation calls for Dematic Software to run and manage the entire operation. The AutoStore system has 11,000 standard plastic containers with orders placed at three carousel doors while storage processes are to be carried out at two conveyor doors. Finally, 16 R5 automatic robots are to handle the plastic containers for the storage and order picking processes.
Thanks to the numerous interfaces made possible by Dematic Software, the AutoStore system can be easily integrated with the logistics processes at Dianflex.
