Storage extension for industry leader

SODICK EUROPE, which has been manufacturing some of the best EDM machines in the world for over 30 years, required additional storage three years after BiGDUG had originally supplied and installed a two-tier shelving system with a raised aisle, back in 2019. Sodick Europe, who were impressed by BiGDUG’s original installation thanks to the quality of both product and service, approached the business solutions specialists after expanding their operations to allow for storing both parts and consumables at their headquarters. The headquarters, which is used for several purposes such as being a central hub for sales, marketing, training, and meetings, as well as featuring an impressive temperature-controlled showroom, subsequently required an expansion of storage by 40%.

BiGDUG explains: “As well as liaising with leading designers and carrying out several site visits, BiGDUG, who is the UK’s #1 provider of storage, office, and packaging solutions, conducted a detailed site survey as part of the initial planning stages. This not only helped to determine how Sodick Europe intend to use their space but enabled the storage specialists to accurately calculate the additional shelving required and ultimately utilise Sodick Europe’s available space. 

“From initial discussions and space planning to CAD visualisations and bespoke solutions, after a smooth installation, the BiGDUG storage expansion was complete. Recognising that the extension needed to fit seamlessly with the existing storage within the existing facility, the first stage of the installation was to partially dismantle the original shelving and cladding. The new shelving was then built, and the dismantled materials were then re-built in a new location. To complete the new system, BiGDUG supplied and installed a staircase with mesh partitioning and an access door. This provided limited access for approved personnel only, giving access to the raised aisle floor but without compromising the adjustability of the shelving.
