Who takes responsibility?

28 March 2022

WHO HAS the biggest responsibility when it comes to recycling plastic? Is it the consumer or end-user? Or is it the brands and manufacturers?

It’s an interesting question posed by Goplasticpallets.com managing director, Jim Hardisty. In 2019, The Responsible Plastic Pallet Company pioneered the UK plastic pallet industry’s first recycling scheme. This commitment saw the plastic pallet experts pledge to take back and recycle all of the plastic products it supplies.

In March 2022, the company celebrated the third anniversary of the plastic pallet recycling scheme and has recycled over 816 tonnes of plastic to date.

Goplasticpallets.com is now encouraging plastic pallet users to join its recycling scheme no matter who supplies their products.

Jim Hardisty said: “Making the most of the valuable plastic that already exists promotes a circular economy and is a much more sustainable way to use plastic.

“We work closely with one of our manufacturing partners to recycle plastic pallets, boxes and containers and turn them into new, recycled pallets. Over 93% of the plastic pallets we supply are made entirely from recycled plastic.

“Partnering with us creates a continuous recycling loop, and the beauty of our scheme is that it is open to everyone, no matter who supplied your plastic pallets!

"Thinking about who has the biggest responsibility when it comes to recycling plastic, I’d say it is all of us. We took responsibility in 2019 and now it is time to work together to recycle these valuable plastic products and prevent them from going to waste."
