Designed for the warehouse

The new MID-MAX LED from Luxonic is designed to provide lighting solutions for open areas of medium height in warehousing and production.

Suitable for installation at up to 18m high, the LED can be surface-mounted or suspended to produce an even distribution of light for open areas that experience a wide variety of activities.
The MID-MAX luminaire combines high output LEDs with optional built-in control sensors to create easily adjusted and environmentally-friendly lighting while maintaining sufficient light levels for the occupants. Wireless versions using LUXLINK RC technology are available allowing flexibility with the design of the lighting scheme layout.
Luxonic says many large industrial properties still use inefficient discharge fittings that entail unnecessary energy usage and substantial running costs, which can be dramatically reduced with LED lighting schemes. New developments in glare control and microstructure film technology to enhance light distribution together with ultra high reflectance materials allows the LEDs to achieve optimum light levels using as little energy as possible.

The MID-MAX luminaire has high output LEDs providing up to 120 luminaire lumens per circuit Watt, exceeding the requirement of Building Regulations, and is suitable for use in ambient (5°C and above) and chilled (1 to 5°C) storage environments.
Maximum energy efficiency is achieved using sensors that detect occupancy levels and therefore allow the luminaires to be turned off after a period of inactivity, or if there is sufficient daylight to light the space.
LUXLINK RC Wireless Control System is a transceiver module built into the luminaire that enables daylight linking and emergency light testing to be carried out, all of which is programmable via a hand held tablet.
Expansion
Luxonic has just completed a ten-month programme and a £750,000 investment in expanding its production facilities in Basingstoke to allow for increase in demand for LED luminaires.
Consolidating all the company’s manufacturing onto the Basingstoke site required an extensive re-organisation of the factory. Engineering is at the heart of the factory and two mezzanine assembly areas have been installed increasing production area by 30%. The introduction of a ‘Lean Manufacturing’ programme at Luxonic streamlines the manufacturing process, vastly improves efficiencies and motivates the assembly teams. The Lean Manufacturing principle is to create production cells for each of the Luxonic product ranges where a team is now responsible for every aspect of that range’s production.
Virtually every Luxonic luminaire has been re-designed around LED technology from high bays to ceiling and wall fittings. Luxonic has always prided itself in having full manufacturing facilities to produce the luminaires that it designs and develops.
The new investment now sees an additional Trumpf 3000 automated punching station and a Trumpf 85 tonne brake press respectively for the automatic pressing of steel luminaire body parts and the forming of luminaire metalwork. For final finishing, a brand new custom built Ercon Finishing Systems powder coating paint plant has been installed. With a continuous track length of 44 metres, it enables double hanging of products at an increased track speed, which increases output and improves energy efficiencies.

Kitting out Hermes warehouse
Luxonic has designed a new lighting scheme for a 15,000 sq m cross-dock warehouse in the North of England to be occupied by delivery company Hermes.
Luxonic provided lighting schemes for both the main warehouse and 1486 sq m of office space that achieved the desired lux levels with minimum energy usage. Minimising the amount of maintenance required was also vital in designing a system that keeps running costs as low as possible.
The full LED lighting solution features both Luxonic’s Hi-Max high-power suspended luminaire and Skylux LED fittings combined with LED downlighters.
Adam Leach, estates manager, Hermes, said: “Our distribution and handling centres require a high level of lighting to meet health and safety criteria and ensure a pleasant working environment is provided. It is vital that these lighting systems are as energy efficient as possible to reduce our carbon footprint and energy use. The Luxonic luminaires, together with the specially programmed lighting controls, look to keep energy wastage to an absolute minimum while the quality of lighting in the property is uncompromised.”
