Flexible handling solutions

Handling & Storage Solutions puts the focus on diverse safe lifting and handling equipment supplied by Packline, for pharmaceutical and clean as well as general applications.

Packline Materials Handling provides bespoke lifting and handling solutions for issues involving handling rolls, reels and drums; by creating new concepts or tailoring existing lifting and handling equipment to meet specific requirements.

The diverse portfolio includes Raptor Drum Handling Equipment. The Raptor drum handling solution is designed with V-shaped legs to lift drums from the corners of pallets using a claw-grab attachment.

The Raptor has a lifting height of 500mm and is suited for transporting drums from 120 to 210 litres, with a drum diameter of up to 572mm.

This drum handling equipment is highly manoeuvrable, enabling the operator to transport the drums around the workplace.

The lifting operation of the drum is operated by a simple and easy to use foot pedal, which operates a hydraulic ram and chain lifting device.

The operator lowers the ‘claw-grab’ over the lip of the drum and the spring loaded mechanism engages to support the lip. There is no need for any operator intervention, making this a very safe and ergonomic solution.

The Logi-Tilt from Logitrans makes it possible to lift and tilt a box, so that the user can reach the bottom without bending and stretching. The user gets an ergonomically correct working position without straining his body – both when standing and sitting. At the same time the Logi-Tilt can also transport boxes and crates.

Logitrans have boosted the design of the Logitilt with the ergonomically correct handle, which is also used on the rest of our product range. The equipment can be set to stop automatically in the same tilting angle each time.

The Logitilt has electric lifting function and a compact construction and can therefore operate between machines and production lines in restricted areas. The lifting capacity is 1,000kg, the forks can be tilted up to 90°, and the working height can be adjusted from 750 to 950mm. The handle can be turned to the side to give better access to the box opening.

The company also provides a bespoke clamp attachment for lifting drums, boxes and rolls. This offers detachable square pads in order to clamp small rectangular oil drums. The pads are easily detached, revealing standard pads for lifting drums or circular containers. This versatile design is suited for modern manufacturing facilities, including within the pharmaceutical industry. The lifting clamp attachment is designed to lift a number of different containers containing a number of different ingredients, thus requiring only one piece of equipment to carry out a number of tasks.

This design incorporates manual rotation of the clamp and container for pouring the contents from each container, operated via a hand-wheel. Automatic rotation is also available.

The natural rubber padding added to the detachable square pads ensures that the containers being lifted are not damaged.

The forward tipping clamp attachment is used for gripping loads by the diameter or circumference such as reels, drums and barrels, and rotating via the hand wheel or handles to any forward position through 360 degrees.

The attachment is fitted with rubber rollers or pads to provide maximum grip, and also to assist alignment.

The built-in slip torque mechanism ensures correct gripping pressure is applied preventing over-tightening and damage to load. Load capacity is up to 300kg (depending on lifter capacity).

The Roll Handling Clamp Attachment with Retainers can have a tendency to telescope, or drums can slip or crush when being lifted from the core or the diameter. This handling issue is usually overcome by using a higher rated torque unit to lift the rolls of drums. In some cases a higher rated torque unit is still not sufficient to prevent rolls telescoping or drums slipping whilst being lifted. In these situations an alternative solution is required.

The adjustable retainers are designed to cover a wide range of roll and drum diameters and lengths, all of which can be lifted by the clamp attachment.

‘Star knobs’ are used to secure the retainers in place vertically by screwing into the sides of the arms. The width of the retainers is then adjusted using plunger pins through holes in the plates.

The motorised vertical spindle attachment was designed as an adaptation to the standard vertical spindle. This vertical spindle attachment uses two motors to automate the lifting and handling process via the use of remote controls and push buttons.

A motor at the rear of the attachment allows the operator to expand the gripping ‘fingers’ inside the reel’s core. An internally fitted torque unit will stop the fingers from causing any damage to the reel’s core.

The second motor is mounted to the gearbox of the attachment and this allows the reel to be rotated into a different orientation. This also includes a torque unit and stop pins are in place to stop over-rotation and any damage to the reel.
