Mobile racking solution provides high density storage at meat company’s freezer facility.

ICP (INTERNATIONAL Casing Products SLU) has optimised its facilities in Mercazaragoza with an AR Racking storage system, which provided the specialist offal and natural casing company with a mobile bases racking solution for its freezing chamber.

Belonging to the Vall Companys Group, for ICP the facilities that it has at Mercazaragoza are strategic due to its location both in the province and on the Iberian Peninsula. To fully optimise the space required, shorten turnaround times and reduce delivery costs, ICP entrusted AR Racking with fitting out its freezing chamber. In response to the company’s compaction and high-density storage needs, AR Racking designed and installed a mobile pallet racking solution.

The project, which was completed in 7 weeks, gave ICP a 1,216 sq m warehouse with capacity for 2,890 europallets of 1,200 kilos. The racking is mounted on chassis or mobile bases guided on rails fixed to the floor that enable the displacement of the racks to one side and the other on the rails to open a single access aisle for the goods transported by the forklift. It is also an optimal solution for freezing storage at -24 deg C required by ICP’s products due to the total reduced volume to cool.

“It has been four years since we launched the warehouse, and we can say that we absolutely made the right decision with AR Racking and its storage system, as it allows us to be super-efficient in the loading and unloading operations, maintain total stock control and preserve the quality of the product to the full,” commented Francisco Farjas, ICP’s head of production. In total, ICP manages 12,000 t/year of its product at its facilities at Mercazaragoza, comprising various preparation rooms and cold and freezing storage areas.

AR Racking’s northern region sales representative, Xabier Rica, said: “The efficiency of this warehouse was essential in order for ICP to stand out from its competitors in terms of operating capacity, product maintenance and traceability, so we are very pleased to have made a difference as a partner in this growth process in recent years with our storage solutions”.
