Heavy duty door keeps the heat in

Heavy-duty Ramdoors from Union Industries is supporting a new temperature control system at Stelrad’s South Yorkshire factory.

The Leeds-based company, which designs has installed the door at Stelrad’s facility to ensure that any excess heat loss is guarded against.

Part of Ideal Heating, Stelrad’s factory, which is located in Rotherham, manufactures a wide range of low surface temperature radiators, steel panel radiator styles, towel warmers and decorative products.

The Ramdoor has been installed to replace the radiator manufacturer’s original problematic high speed door, to help protect Stelrad’s staff from ingress of cold air into its workplace, and of course to keep heat loss to a minimum during winter.

Measuring in at almost 5 sq m, the Ramdoor has an opening speed of up to 1.6m/sec and a closing speed of 0.7m/sec; the fast operating speeds of the Ramdoor drastically reduces cold air entering the factory, and at the same time stops warm heated air escaping during cold periods throughout the year, therefore reducing heating costs.

In common with the other doors in their range, the Ramdoor features Union’s ‘Crash-Out’ damage protection facility, which ensures the door remains operable even if the heavy duty steel composite bottom beam is hit by a vehicle.

Glyn Pilkington, manufacturing technical coordinator at Stelrad says: “Temperature control and energy saving, as well as ensuring a comfortable working environment for our staff, are all important elements of our operation in Rotherham. The original fast roller door we had on this opening was constantly out of action, mainly due to poor quality manufacture and parts that could not be repaired, so the door was open a lot during winter, so it was a big issue to us all.

“Union Industries has helped us address these issues and I am delighted with the installation of the Ramdoor, as its robust and efficient features will help improve our processes going forward.”

Paul Chable, senior technical sales for the north at Union Industries, adds: “Safeguarding working conditions is vital for any business and with the installation of the Ramdoor, effective temperature control and comfortable working conditions are achieved.

“Our range of high speed doors offers an effective solution that not only solves the issue, but provides improved security and efficiency. I am delighted that Stelrad has decided to use our service, and that we have helped them solved the problems they were experiencing with the competitor’s door by replacing it with our Ramdoor.”

Olympia

Union Industries has also installed a 6.0m wide x 4.7m high Ramdoor High Speed Door at the Olympia London exhibition centre, following up a door that was installed in 2011.

Hosting a variety of exhibitions, Olympia London often requires access for large installations and projects, and as such Union’s Ramdoors were fitted to provide swift and reliable access into the building. The doors also serve to retain heat in the main hall, an issue the venue had struggled with in the past.

Paul Bishop, operations manager at Olympia London, says: “We have been very impressed with the first Ramdoor and the accessibility benefits it has given the venue. We are always looking at ways of enhancing our operations and Union’s high speed door offered the ideal solution helping maintain an efficient flow of traffic in and out of the building as well as supporting our environmental commitment by preventing heat loss, so a second Ramdoor from Union Industries was the obvious choice.”

Gary Bareham,sSenior technical sales (South) at Union Industries, adds: “Our range of high speed roller doors has an exceptional reputation and we regularly win repeat business from organisations such as Olympia London on the strength of the quality and reliability of our doors.”
