Honeywell to acquire US warehouse automation firm
The highly diverse manufacturer will splash out £1.13 billion ($1.5bn) on Intelligrated.
The firm supplies automated picking and conveying systems as well as Warehouse Execution System software and Order Fulfillment solutions.
The deal closely follows the acquisition of another US warehouse automation leader – Dematic was bought by Kion Group for £1.4bn.
Toyota Industries is understood to have competed closely with Honeywell in a bid to land Intelligrated.
The systems integrator employs more than 3,100 people and the transaction is expected to close by the end of the third quarter, subject to regulatory approval.
Intelligrated will be integrated into Sensing and Productivity Solutions (S&PS) in Honeywell’s Automation and Control Solutions business.
Honeywell is a familiar name in intralogistics, particularly following its 2012 acquisition of Intermec which brought handhelds and voice solutions, via Vocollect, into the business.
"E-commerce continues to grow at an unprecedented rate and customer demands for faster delivery times have created a need for warehouse, logistics and fulfillment solutions that can increase productivity and lower costs for our customers,” said Alex Ismail, president and CEO of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions. “This acquisition fits with our vision for a connected industrial company and a connected worker.”
“Intelligrated’s leading supply chain automation solutions are a fantastic complement to Honeywell’s portfolio of industry-leading workflow performance solutions including cloud-connected mobile worker applications, high-performance data collection hardware, and other technologies to improve worker productivity,” said John Waldron, president of Honeywell Sensing and Productivity Solutions. “The leadership team at Intelligrated is top-notch and we look forward to working with them to expand our presence globally.”
