Improved lighting boosts picking

Yours Clothing is undergoing such expansion program it has repeatedly moved premises.

Having recently moved into a 100,000 sq ft of warehousing space in Peterborough and erected twelve rows of storage racking they found themselves in the predicament of having inadequate lighting in the very narrow aisles.

Lighting Electricians, a specialist lighting contractor in Peterborough, supplied energy efficient lighting for the racking area and the whole warehouse. The end result was a quadrupling in the lighting level, a hugely increased lighting level down each isle, happier and more efficient staff who were able to identify the correct picking bins with greater ease and no increase in the energy cost.

This was achieved by the removal of their existing low bay son lighting which was in three rows at 10 metres high and the installation of 100 T5 80w high frequency batons mounted at 4 metres high down each racking aisle. This allowed the positioning of the fluorescent to be accurately lighting each individual row instead of huge shadows. The lamp used was an Osram colour 4000 triphosphor T5 energy efficient lamp with an expected life of at least three years and maintenance free.

The fitting also incorporated a mirror reflector to increase the light output ratio of the light fitting and direct the light down each individual aisle with a total consumption of the 100 fittings being 8KW. The existing 30 250w sons had a total load of 9KW but were clearly not doing the job to light the individual racking rows where the light was needed.

In the main open storage area the existing low bay 250w sons were changed for a 250w venture white lamp to greatly enhance the colour rendering in the area without increasing the cost.

The project was straightforward giving the maximum reliability and light spread down each aisle without increasing ongoing costs to Yours Clothing.
