Midac Batteries bedding in
Midac sales director Malcolm Pearson has had a hectic year since the UK launch of the company, but he and the rest of the team have loved every minute of it.
Getting a business off the ground is never easy, Doing it while running another successful business is even more challenging and yet that’s what Midac UK have achieved.
The Italian battery firm launched its UK subsidiary last year, buying into Total Battery Management (TBM). This means that in the last year, Midac UK has continued the operations previously branded under TBM, as well as introducing new Midac product to the UK market and building up the infrastructure and team to support this new push.
Simon Duddy recently caught up with sales director Malcolm Pearson to get a flavour of the last year.
“The TBM business runs as before and is very successful and we have added the Midac battery sales too. We’ve built the depot, put stock in place, created a demonstration area, it’s felt like doing three jobs over the last year.”
The organisation is looking to develop sales interest in the UK. As part of this push, the new company exhibited for the first time at IMHX.
Pearson continues: “Midac is not as well known in the UK as other brands, so the big challenge is to build brand recognition. The Midac product is a premium product, it is up there with its rivals, the factory has stayed in Italy and there has been impressive investment in plant.
“It will take time to build the business but we’ve got young product from a young organisation coupled with people in the UK with many years of experience. It’s a nice blend and the company is a good one to work for. We’re a privately funded business and we don’t get bogged down with committees, the decision making process is fast.”
Midac’s forward thinking approach meant it recently received an award at the ELBC, European Lead Battery Council, a body involving all European lead battery manufacturers.
Midac was awarded the prize “for always investing in the most productive and innovative technology”. The panel recognised Midac’s excellence in three categories: best technological process innovation, the greatest contribution to lead battery technical development and being an exemplary company in the lead acid battery industry.
