Pyroban opens new UK factory to increase capacity
One of the leading developers of explosion protection technology in the world, Pyroban, has opened a new factory in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex in the UK to increase capacity and meet constantly growing sales opportunities.
The new factory, named ‘Unit 23’, is a highly modernised fabrication, machining and painting centre, situated in a 1680m2 facility and represents the highest single manufacturing investment in Pyroban’s 40 year history. The unit is in addition to its existing plant at ‘Endeavour Works’, also on Dolphin Road in Shoreham.
This new facility manufactures the majority of parts used within Pyroban’s industry leading Engine Explosion Protection Kits that are used to provide safety in oil and gas installations. Many of its products are exported from the UK to oil fields across the world.
Having outgrown the company’s previous facility, the new premises are larger and more spacious, allowing Pyroban to increase manufacturing uptime and meet the constantly rising sales targets. There is now reduced congestion and even better safety procedures in place.
The benefits of Unit 23 are already reported to be significant. Workers are more efficient and are now operating in even safer conditions, which is one of the most important aspects of the new factory. In addition, Unit 23 has improved product quality through lean working methodologies by implementing the Caterpillar Production System. In 2011 Pyroban became a wholly owned division of Caterpillar.
“Pyroban has invested significant capital in new machines and tooling for Unit 23, allowing the company to increase uptime and produce even higher quality products” says Neil McGregor, Global Operations Manager. “This is already having a direct impact on our customers and the market as a whole.”
Unit 23 was officially opened by the President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Mark Hunt, who visited the factory as part of a tour of engineering facilities.
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is a leading authority on engineering. As a member, Pyroban looks to the Institution for guidance on a range of topics such as research, training and environmental issues. The visit from the Institution’s President was an important day for Pyroban, as the company is continually expanding and developing as a business.
