Consolidating picking and cross-docking added to contract
Multinational insulation products manufacturer Rockwool has extended its UK distribution contract with transport operator CM Downton.
The two companies have been working together since April 2016.
Downton delivers palletised full loads of insulation products each week from Rockwool’s production plant near Bridgend, South Wales to customers throughout the UK. Alongside the full load contract, Downton has also been awarded Rockwool UK’s groupage warehousing and distribution contract which covers deliveries of less-than-full loads and will entail the processing of customer orders by consolidating picking and cross-docking consignments into efficient loads for onward delivery.
To support the groupage operation, Downton has established links with Rockwool’s SAP system and its own warehouse management system to enable seamless sharing of information including stock transfers, customer orders and inventory levels.
Both contracts will be co-ordinated out of CM Downton’s Chepstow facility.
