Encouraging youth into logistics
Youth charity, The Prince’s Trust, has set up the Get Into Logistics programme, which aims to help unemployed young people in the UK get jobs in the logistics sector.
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, through Aspire, its careers foundation, the Freight Transport Association and the DHL UK Foundation have invested in Get into Logistics programme.
The charity is encouraging other businesses within the sector to invest in the programme, which comprises a two-week course that gives unemployed young people hands-on experience in the logistics industry, as well as developing their job skills, confidence and motivation.
The young people undertake a work placement and take part in CV workshops and personal development classes. Once the programme comes to an end, they receive ongoing support for six months to help them retain their new job or to support them into one.
Businesses sought
Julian Barrell, director of fundraising at The Prince’s Trust, said: “We want to significantly grow The Prince’s Trust Get into Logistics programme over the next few years. This partnership between DHL UK Foundation, the Freight Transport Association and Aspire will go a long way but we need more businesses to come forward and join in the mission.”
