Link 51 to launch white paper at whisky conference

Leading provider of bespoke racking for the whisky industry, Link 51, launches its latest white paper Storage and Maturation in the Whisky Industry at the prestigious Worldwide Distilled Spirits Conference (WDSC) in Glasgow (8-11 September).

A team of executives from Link 51, who specialise in the whisky industry, will be exhibiting at the event and unveiling the white paper to delegates, which offers up to date insight into the importance of bespoke racking for whisky casks and how this flexible storage solution is becoming ever popular in the drinks industry.

The white paper explores how storage has evolved to accommodate the developing needs of the whisky industry. To guarantee better quality, clarity and excellent taste, each cask must be treated with the utmost care; although palletisation has been a popular method of storage in the past, the development of bespoke racking provides many benefits, including improved accessibility for testing, enabling distillers to take better care of casks and is believed to be better for maturation.

Link 51 also reveals that another benefit to bespoke racking solutions is the reduction in the Angels’ Share; the percentage of whisky lost over the 12 year maturation process through evaporation. Each year, the Angels’ Share loss amounts to an average of 2% (five litres per cask), which can be higher in warmer countries, losing around 40,000 litres per year for a racking system holding 8,000 Hogs Heads.

Robert Scott, Link 51’s territory sales executive Scotland, commented: “Our experience working with the whisky industry has revealed that while pallets are popular, more customers are requesting bespoke solutions, as they can adapt to evolving market conditions and changing standards of compliance. We’re looking forward to meeting with delegates attending this year’s WDSC and discussing the findings of our research and exploring the challenges the industry is currently facing.”
