Mitsubishi Heavy acquires UniCarriers

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Mitsubishi Nichiyu Forklift (MN) have respectively bought 65% and 35% shares in UniCarriers for a reported £570 million.

UniCarriers told shareholders that it and MHI and MN will work together to ‘establish a global leading position’.

They will establish a preparatory committee to formulate management policy and strategy to grow the combined group.

UniCarriers Group was created in 2011 from the mergers of the three brands Atlet, Nissan Forklift and TCM.

A UniCarriers spokesman said he expected the UniCarriers business in the UK to continue as it is under the current structure, which has recently been revamped with TCM as a dealer focused brand and UniCarriers as a brand catering to corporate customers.
“Within UniCarriers Europe as well as in UniCarriers UK we are very positive to this change of ownership and we are convinced that this will provide growth and development opportunities for our European operations,” he said.

The purchase means the combined group vies closely with NACCO as the world’s fourth biggest forklift manufacturer.

The top three are Toyota, Kion, and Jungheinrich.
