THE E-TAILER has secured permission from Rushcliffe Council to operate the new delivery centre from a warehouse facility known as Unit B2 which totals 65,660 ft2. The delivery centre is expected to go live in the Autumn.
Planning documents suggest the company will employ up to 422 people, including 358 van drivers, 24 marshallers, 17 office staff members and five maintenance workers. The facility will operate 24/7.
“Ocado have identified this area of Nottingham as a key area where the demand for goods is high, yet the existing availability of distribution hubs is low, which ultimately affects the service Ocado are able to provide to the customer and results in long wait times for groceries.
“The objective of Ocado is to occupy this unit, and serve the wider Nottingham area, providing an essential service for residents.”
In order to make the warehouse suitable for its need Ocado applied for the installation of fuel pumps, new fences, gates, a smoking shelter, lifts and a docking area. In addition to new cladding, a vehicle washing area and CCTV. It is these amendments which have secured planning.
