Rory Underwood among the presenters

“Three days to save a life” is the overall theme when the Health and Safety Event returns to Birmingham’s NEC for a third year from 22nd -24th March 2016.

The UK’s fastest growing event in the sector, the 2016 Health and Safety Event offers access to a wealth of educational content, interactive forums and product manufacturers and service providers.

One of the major draws will be the educational experience that awaits visitors. The British Safety Council and The International Institute for Risk Safety Management (IIRSM) have organised an impressive panel of respected speakers for the event’s conference theatre.

Former England rugby international and ex-RAF pilot Rory Underwood is among the presenters speaking over the three days and he will draw on his experience of flight safety to talk about behavioural safety.

Setting the scene on the first day, Kevin Myers, director general regulation, Health & Safety Executive (HSE) outlines the regulator’s current strategy and its future plans for maintaining and further improving the UK’s exemplary health and safety record.

‘Health’ historically has not been afforded the same weight as ‘safety’ but Clive Johnson from Land Securities puts the issue firmly in the spotlight with a timely presentation on health in the construction industry, drawing on the ground-breaking work carried out by the Health in Construction Leadership Group.

In addition to the free conference and 200 exhibitor stands, the Health and Safety Event provides a platform for four features.

Visitors are urged to ‘join the debate’ in the Safety Dialogue Theatre and engage with a panel of leading authorities pooled from the Health & Safety Laboratory (HSL), the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), NEBOSH and 3M. Experts will discuss topical issues, including hearing protection and respiratory protective equipment.

Building on the success of its debut last year, the Safer Logistics Theatre brings together a wealth of expert guidance and advice from leading industry bodies to examine the key safety challenges in warehousing and logistics.

Supported by NEBOSH, a new element for 2016 is the Education Pavillion. The new dedicated feature will host an ‘Ask the Expert’ facility and provide visitors with direct access to educational advice and guidance.

Also brand new this year is ‘Lions’ Lair’. Taking place twice a day, exhibitors will have five minutes to impress the expert judges with their pitches. The judges and live audience will then vote to determine which presentation is worthy of the Lions’ Lair crown.

Co-located with Maintec and Facilities Management 2016, the Health and Safety Event 2016 provides coverage of the health and safety issues that matter to anyone responsible for running a safe and efficient workplace.
