The course, which is entitled 'Safe Use of Lifting Tackle and Operation of Overhead Gantry Cranes', is designed to improve workplace safety and help employers meet their obligations under workplace legislation, including the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAW), PUWER 1998 and LOLER 1998.
Under section 2 of HASAW, employers are required to provide "information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety at work of his employees", with stiff penalties for non-compliance.
The training regime combines theoretical and practical elements.
