The RackGuard Leg Protecta from A-Safe has been independently tested and certified by TUV Nord. In Germany, where there is tough legislation on protection of rack legs, if you've got the TÃœV logo associated with your product, it's the one the people want. The new RackGuard Leg Protecta is the only product of its kind that is produced, manufactured and tested under one roof, and has now become the first polymeric and first clip on rack leg protector to be certified by TÃœV to the FEM 10.2.02 standard.
"We've got a lot of confidence in the RackGuard," said director James Smith.
"It's a great product, which more durable, cheaper and more visually aesthetic than anything else on the market." The proof in James' words came after the TÃœV test, which is a four front impact test is performed with the RackGuard Leg Protecta attached to a Speedrack medium duty upright racking, passed the test with flying colours.
"To pass the test, a 40kg mass is dropped onto the RackGuard at 9.8m per second from a one metre height, equating to a force of 400 newtons. This can be likened to the RackGuard being able to absorb the force of a 1.5 tonne vehicle travelling at 10 kilometres per hour." Zero deflection on the racking was achieved on this test, but A-Safe was not happy.
A-Safe asked TÃœV to double the load to 800 newtons of force and perform the test again. At twice the impact force required to pass the test, the RackGuard again gave fantastic protection, and achieved deflection well within the limit required.
The HSE document Warehouse and storage: Keep it safe INDG412 says that: "Storage areas should be properly designated and clearly marked. It also says that racking systems should be properly designed and installed, this includes being able to safely take the load of the goods being stored and you should protect racking if it is likely to be struck by lift trucks and other vehicles. RackGuard offers you strong, flexible protection from lift trucks and other vehicles," A-Safe concludes.
