Amazon warehouse workers strike in Germany

Amazon runs eight warehouses in Germany, employs 9,000 workers and has sales of more than €6.5bn in the country.

The union Ver.di wants to reach a collective wage agreement for workers with Amazon. The union says wages and conditions are being squeezed as the company seeks to manage costs.

The union is pushing for workers to be paid the higher hourly minimum rate (around €2 per hour more) for the retail and mail-order sector. But Amazon is resisting this, saying that the warehouse workers are working in logistics operations not retail.
