Over 200 forklift models provided by Doosan

22 July 2013

Doosan Industrial Vehicle UK director & general manager Tim Waples explains there is much more than counterbalance trucks to the Korean giant’s offering.

For a long time Doosan was best known for its rock-solid counterbalance trucks built with pride at our factories in Korea. While these remain the company’s core strength, we have also experienced huge interest in our newly-launched range of warehouse products this year.

The first steps into expanding our warehouse truck range were made back in 2008 with a multi-million pound purchase of a German warehouse equipment manufacturer.

Since then, the UK has been heavily involved in ensuring our Doosan warehouse range delivers the high levels of quality, as well as the value for money, that the UK market expects.

At IMHX this year, we unveiled the latest developments in our warehouse range: the LED series of pedestrian and ride-on pallet trucks, stackers and low-level order pickers.

This new range has been extremely well received. Available in four different models – pedestrian, flip-down platform, built-in back or side protection – the LED products provide the low lifetime operating costs and minimal maintenance that have always been the key selling points of Doosan products.

For example, with a heavy duty construction made from thick gauge steel, our pallet trucks are built to last in the most intensive of applications. Plastic or thin metal covers, often used in products for this sector, are all too easily damaged in the course of routine operations. It’s attending to multiple small details like this that allows Doosan to help its customers achieve long-term cost-savings.

The LED models, with compact and stable chassis designs, clear instrumentation and ergonomic controls, as well as robust construction, present a well-specified, strong offering to the wider warehousing sector. And thanks to our highly-efficient German manufacturing base, these high-quality, heavy duty, well-built products are also available with very short lead times.

The new ride-on trucks are ideal for cross docking, load shuttling and transporting over longer distances. Providing operator safety and comfort are key goals, ease of use is also crucial, but at the same time owners do not want to be continually replacing parts due to minor damage. That’s why these Doosan products are built to last.

Also debuting in the UK at IMHX was the latest addition to our warehouse range – the new Doosan 7 Series Reach Truck, available in 1.4-tonne and 1.6-tonne variants with masts extending up to 10.25m.

The 7 Series truck exemplifies the way Doosan’s exclusively in-house manufacturing approach manifests the latest specifications as standard features for customers. For example the 7 Series includes the latest AC motors (contactless and requiring lower-maintenance than DC motors), 180-degree and 360-degree steering, integral load weight indicator, German Sauer-Danfoss controllers for advanced lifting, and intelligent driving characteristics.

Another standard feature is auto drive-wheel centering on start-up, an extremely valuable safety feature, which ensures that when an operator gets into the vehicle and pulls away, it will always initially travel straight ahead, reducing the potential for accidents when in close proximity to personnel or racking.

As well as being safe, the 7 Series has been designed for comfort. The operator cabin features the lowest entry step of its class at 350mm, while keyless keypad entry prevents access to unauthorised operators, and enables performance and speed settings to be programmed to suit each driver or working environment. A spacious cab offers clear, all-round visibility, and now the availability of specially designed cold-store cabins with heated windows and cabs, have appealed greatly to operators working in chillers or freezers.

Our warehouse selection contributes to an overall Doosan range which now stretches to more than 200 models – ranging from our simplest hand pallet truck to the giant 25-tonne diesel trucks.

The continuing expansion of our range means that an ever-wider range of customers can start to benefit from the simple, powerful performance promised – and delivered – by the Doosan brand worldwide.
