Huge DC designed to power Asda’s growth in the south

Head of engineering & capacity at Asda Logistics Services, Ant Everett, said: "The 492,000 sq ft new distribution centre has capacity to support 78 Superstores and 45 supermarkets and is strategically placed to help Asda expand into the South of the UK.

"The depot is situated on the 50-acre site that also features a new Asda Recycling Centre (ASC) due to be commissioned and operational early in the new year, bringing a total investment of over £70m to the Avonmouth region."

The facility is more than double the size of the old Asda CDC in the area, which was 214,000 sq ft. 

Over 600 employees have migrated from the old depot, four miles away at Portbury Dock Industrial Estate, to the new facility that includes a restaurant serving locally sourced food and fully equipped colleague gym. 

The warehouse incorporates many carbon and energy efficiency features such as single skin chill-chambers, rainwater harvesting, combined heat & power and occupier lighting.
