Comprehensive approach
29 September 2014
Linde unveils an impressive range of forklift tools, such as Safety Pilot which allows operators to calculate load lift limits.
Whatever your material handling needs, Linde’s comprehensive approach and portfolio of safety products and services are designed around the needs of our customers. This holistic, preventative approach ensures safety is built in to every truck.
Linde Safety Pilot
Linde’s latest safety innovation is the Linde Safety Pilot. This is a unique electronic driver assistance system which helps operate the forklift truck safely, minimising the risk of an accident. The Linde Safety Pilot will indicate when the truck approaches its maximum parameters with information on the load centre of gravity; the load weight currently placed on the fork arms, the current lift height, the tilt angle of the fork arms and the maximum lift height up to which the load may be raised. To help operators quickly identify all of these values, the display features a clear graphical design keeping numbers to a minimum.
Bluespot
Linde Bluespot is a visual driving path warning device which enhances pedestrian safety in truck aisles as well as intersections between aisles and pedestrian walkways. The Bluespot consists of two energy-efficient, very bright and long-lasting LED lights attached to the truck which projects a large blue spot onto the floor a few metres ahead in the direction of travel (forwards or backwards). This acts as a warning to pedestrians who may be approaching. The spot can be lit up constantly or it can flash in order to attract attention. The Bluespot has now been developed to include an arrow shape and red colour option.
Driver Assistant/Curve Assist
Linde Driver Assistant is an electronic system reducing traction speed automatically depending on steering angle resulting in perfectly safe cornering manoeuvres every time. Uniquely this can be fitted as standard to both engine and electric counterbalance trucks as well as reach, pallet trucks and order pickers in the Linde range. Truck speed can also be controlled electronically to match customer site speed limits.
Whole body vibration
Operator well-being is a contributing factor to safety and the workstation of Linde’s trucks are isolated from the chassis to reduce the vibrations and on the counterbalance range a unique overhead tilt cylinder design ensures that most of the stresses are dispersed evenly over the whole structure of the truck again resulting in less vibration and reduced deflection of the lift mast.
Warehouse trucks
Linde has a range of safety features across the warehouse range. The unique long tiller arm on pedestrian pallet trucks ensures a large clearance between the operator and chassis. The creep speed feature offers utmost safety and manoeuvrability in confined areas. The latest range of reach trucks R14-R20 won the 2014 safety award from the FLTA for the optional panoramic toughened glass roof which provides an unobstructed upward view and also protects the operator from falling objects. The Linde medium and high-level order picking range offers the option of Aisle Safety Assist (ASA) which maps the necessary safety interlocks for the whole warehouse to ensure safe truck operation.
BOOTS wins operator challenge
Linde Material Handling (UK) held its annual Forklift Ultimate Operator Challenge on Saturday 16th August at Linde Sterling in Bolton. The 18 finalists were selected from a number of competitions throughout the year, held at customer sites and Linde facilities throughout the UK.
Andrew Rawson of Boots UK was the overall winner with Kris Scarborough, from Wilko’s last year’s winner, coming in second and Jake Walmsley from Victrex plc coming in third. Rawson was "totally surprised to have the privilege of winning, the standard of competitors has continued to increase making it a much tougher competition”.
John Thompson, Linde driver training manager, says: "The Operator Challenge tests the operator’s practical driving skill to the limit, each competitor completed 4 difficult practical challenges to exceptionally high standards.
All three winners will go on to compete as a team at the International Forklift Cup in Aschaffenburg, Germany. The event has established itself as an outstanding event in its sector and encourages safer working in production and warehouse logistics.
