Online retailer to automate fulfilment centre
26 February 2016
TGW is to install the automated logistics systems at the new fulfilment centre of Dutch online retailer, bol.com.
The building will measure 50,000m2, which is the equivalent to eight football pitches, and will have 135,000m2 of floor space. Delivery of the project is expected to be in the second half of 2017 and bol.com aims to achieve an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM sustainability rating for the building.
Daniel Ropers, director of bol.com said: “A privately owned fulfilment centre with enough space to grow ensures that we can keep on extending our range of 10 million products, as well as services such as ‘Pick Up Today’ and ‘Logistics Through bol.com.’ It also offers us the possibility to innovate towards faster and even more reliable delivery and service, for which ease and choice for our customers always comes first.”
All those involved in the project, joined Daniel Ropers as well as bol.com logistics director Huub Vermeulen, mayor Nol Kleijngeld and Alderman of Waalwijk’s Social and Economic Business Community in marking the official start of construction.
Designed by supply chain consultants Groenewout and architects FKG, construction of the new centre has begun in the industrial area of Haven Acht, Waalwijk. Developed by Van Wijnen Rosmalen Construction, the build is expected to take about a year, after which the intralogistics systems will be fitted by TGW.
The site, the building and its equipment will be the property of bol.com. Docdata, the current fulfilment partner of bol.com, will take care of the personnel and daily management of the new location.
