CFTS experts on hand at IMHX stand
30 June 2016
You can get free advice on how Thorough Examinations must comply with UK health and safety law available at IMHX this September.

If you think of that song by the Kinks when you hear the word “LOLER”, then you need to visit Stand 11M35 at IMHX this September. There, CFTS will offer free guidance on LOLER, PUWER and the benefits of comprehensive Thorough Examinations.
The regular Thorough Examination of fork lift trucks is a legal necessity for all companies operating industrial vehicles, yet, according to CFTS, not all truck inspections guarantee your truck is complying with the law.
CFTS Technical Managers Shaun Prendergast (above) and Matthew Kennedy (below) will be on hand throughout the show offering advice.
Shaun explains: “Fork lift trucks must comply with regulations set out in LOLER 98 and PUWER 98 statutes. While LOLER covers the truck’s lifting components, PUWER covers vital elements of the truck, including brakes, steering and much, much more.
“While Thorough Examinations traditionally check masts and chains under LOLER, not all meet the stringent PUWER criteria. Neglecting to check these critical components can be dangerous business for your staff… and your business.
“As well as increasing your accident risk, you could be in danger of serious legal ramifications. So, if you’re at all unsure of your compliance, pop along to the CFTS stand so we can look at your current provisions.”
The CFTS stand will also welcome the more than 450 companies currently accredited to its Thorough Examination Scheme.
CFTS chairman Mike Mathias reveals: “In recent months, we’ve significantly enhanced the scheme. It’s more robust than ever before and, for the companies we work with, it’s easier to administrate than ever before. So come along find out about our latest developments.
“While you’re there, be sure to enjoy a coffee and some valuable opportunities for networking with colleagues and friends. We are sharing our stand with BITA and the FLTA – the two organisations that established CFTS more than a decade ago – so there will be a lot of familiar faces to welcome you.
“And if you’re considering accrediting to the scheme, we strongly encourage you to pop in. All of our key personnel will be on hand ready to answer any questions you may have, and, of course, welcome you into the fold.”
