Michelin Safety Manager to present at Safer Logistics

19 April 2017

Dundee-based Graeme Madden, Safety Manager at Michelin will present alongside A-SAFE at Safer Logistics Scotland at the Glasgow SEC on May 3-4.

Graeme will share guidance from Michelin on efficient traffic management within its facilities and how this relates to PAS 13:2017, a new code of practice for safety barriers used in traffic management within workplace environments, with test methods for safety barrier impact resilience.

PAS 13:2017 was sponsored by A-SAFE and its development facilitated by BSI Standards Limited. The guide collates specialist expertise on each aspect of using safety barriers as a workplace protection tool, and is divided into four main clauses; safety barriers used in traffic management within the workplace, safety barrier design, kinetic energy of vehicles and methods of testing the force of impact that a safety barrier can withstand.

James Smith, Co-Director of A-SAFE said: “We’ve been working on PAS 13:2017 for the past couple of years and it’s been fantastic to use our expertise on safety barriers for such an important industry document. The end goal for PAS 13:2017 is to set an industry standard for the use of safety barriers in the workplace, and hopefully it becomes an essential tool for decision makers who consider health and safety to be a top priority.”

Visitors to Safer Logistics Scotland (part of the Scotland Works exhibition) at the Glasgow SEC on May 3-4 will also benefit from key safety learnings from top industry bodies.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT), The Fork Lift Truck Association, and RTITB (formerly the Road Transport Industry Training Board) will all provide presentations.

Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning is also to present at Safer Logistics Scotland, with the team from the Livingston site attending.

Simon Duddy, chairman of the Safer Logistics Campaign and Editor of Handling & Storage Solutions magazine said: “We are delighted with the strength of the Safer Logistics Scotland programme. The presence of these industry bodies and heavyweight manufacturers based in Scotland means there will be much to learn for those that can take a day out of the office or warehouse to attend this free conference.

“We often hear how visitors to safety related events pick up advice, or make contacts that help their companies push on to the next stage of improving safety in their operations. This is the perfect opportunity for that.”
