3PL takes on container handler for Manchester site
10 January 2018
Maritime Transport is set to enhance its container handling services across the North West after working with Cooper Specialised Handling to improve its heavy lifting capabilities in Manchester.

Container transport company Maritime invested in a second Sany empty container handler, which will be put to work at its busy Trafford Park transport depot. The company introduced a Sany double box empty container handler, also supplied by Cooper Specialised Handling, at its Leeds depot in autumn 2016.
The new Sany machine has been purchased outright and joins a Manchester-based fleet that already comprises two empty container handlers. It has been custom painted in Maritime's livery and features Valu+ options including air conditioning, 12 LED spotlights, reverse alarm, external electronic display showing machine data and electric tilting cabin.
Paul Heyhoe, operations director at Maritime Transport, says: "Our Leeds depot has seen a considerable uplift in productivity since the Sany machine went into service.
"Large volumes of traffic pass through our Manchester terminal on a daily basis so having a robust, reliable container handling capability is essential. This new Sany empty container handler is set to have a major impact on our business development plans in the North West."
While capable of stacking up to seven containers high, Maritime will use the machine to stack up to five boxes. The single stacker Sany SDCY100K6G is said to have the highest stability and ground clearance of any empty container handler on the market, providing a safe platform for any operation, even in the most challenging conditions. Maritime's machine has been specified with 14.00x24 tyres, rather than the conventional 12.00x24 tyres fitted to its existing equipment, which further improves ground clearance while also providing a more comfortable driving experience for the operator.
Maritime has a servicing and maintenance arrangement with Cooper Solutions.
Operating a network of 27 depots, Maritime specialises in providing road- and rail-based container transport services to global shipping lines, freight forwarders and cargo owners.
