KNAPP to focus on horizontal transport at WTG Live
17 April 2018
As well as delivering large automated systems to leading retailers – including John Lewis, M&S and Boots – KNAPP also supplies smaller logistics automation projects for SMEs.
These often feature the company’s ‘Streamline’ conveyors, which feature modular design and a high degree of pre-assembly to minimise costs and shorten installation times. Available as both roller and belt models and with a range of transfer and handling elements, Streamline offers quiet and versatile operation in distribution centres to handle containers, cartons, trays and soft packaging in weights up to 50kg.
Alternatively, horizontal transport can be taken care of by KNAPP’s Open Shuttle AGVs. Designed for handling both cartons and containers, these versatile vehicles travel at speeds of up to 1.8 m/s. They can be used for all kinds of transport tasks in warehouses – to link warehouse and production areas or to combine transport and picking tasks – and are ideal for applications with repetitive movements of materials, especially when on-time delivery or tracking of material is critical.
A fork version is also available for handling pallets. Featuring laser navigation and swarm intelligence, the free-roaming Open Shuttle AGVs communicate with each other and autonomously distribute orders among themselves.
The Open Shuttles are characterised by intelligent and safe vehicle movement. Through the dimensions scanner, the Open Shuttle detects static as well as moveable objects and reacts intuitively. They independently plan the fastest route and find alternative routes when blocked by an obstacle, without optical or physical aides. This guarantees a safe and flexible interaction between people, other transport vehicles and the Open Shuttles. The Open Shuttle fleet precisely adjusts to the work requirements and takes care of tasks independently in the different areas of the warehouse.
The user interface for monitoring the Open Shuttles is designed to be intuitive and user friendly. In keeping with the easyUse principle by KNAPP, the customer can configure everything easily and independently. This configuration includes activating or deactivating shuttles, making changes to the layout, changing paths, and locking warehouse areas.
