7 tonne Hyundais put to the test

Posted on Wednesday 20 September 2023

Leading Finnish Logistics Solutions company, Ahola Transport, has taken delivery of 10 new Hyundai 70D-9 forklift trucks, replacing the older generation Hyundai models and considerably strengthening its material handling fleet.

Ahola Transport, part of the Ahola group, operates across Europe with a fleet of over 500 machines, and the new Hyundai forklifts will be used in the company’s main Naantali hub in Finland and in Ahola’s hub sites in Sweden and Estonia.

The forklifts are crucial to Ahola’s daily operations, as all of its trucks are side loaded with forklifts – meaning the machines need to be ready to handle a huge variety of different loads. Alf Nyblom, site manager of Ahola’s Naantali hub, explains: “Loading and unloading need to be fast and efficient and our machines need to be ready for anything – so we have invested in trucks and loading fleets that are optimised exactly for our needs.”

Supplied and maintained by Hyundai approved dealer, Finnsiirto Oy, the 7 tonne Hyundai forklifts have been specially adapted for Ahola’s needs, making the driver’s comfort and safety a top priority.

Kalle Dahlman, Sales Manager of Finnsiirto Oy, explains: “The fork length of these new machines is 2,350mm which is the optimal size to ensure loading can be done safely and efficiently within the customer’s available space. The machine forks have been specially adapted to further improve visibility and ensure the operator can work quickly and confidently.”

Antti Lehtovaara, technical support and instructor at Finnsiirto Oy, adds: “The new forklift engines are noticeably better on fuel economy which keeps our customers happy, but also the more spacious cabin, air conditioning and seat suspension means that their operators are comfortable and enjoy using the machines.

“We take pride in our work and we are committed to delivering only the very best machines. Our preparation and control processes are comprehensive so we can be sure that every Hyundai forklift we deliver is immediately ready for the job and will live up to our customers’ high expectations. We are proud to be supporting Ahola Transport and look forward to working with them for many years to come.”

Designed after extensive consultation with customers, Hyundai’s new Heavy Line range boasts a next generation forklift cab that features a revised console layout and a smaller steering wheel, to deliver increased working space for the operator. A one-piece constant radius windscreen provides improved forward visibility without edge distortion, while fully glazed doors also contribute to a reduced in-cab noise level, cut by up to 5.9dB.

Ranging from 7tn to 30tn, serviceability is also greatly improved. An electrically powered side-tilting cab structure, simplified access to the powertrain for ease of regular maintenance and an extended fuel filter life of 500 to 1,000 hours are some of the upgrades made. Long-life hydraulic oil now means change intervals can be extended to 5,000 hours, reducing cost of ownership and downtime for the customer.
