Casting Support Systems launches Versatote Green

Versatote green is the name given to its range of ALC’s, Euro’s and stack nest containers manufactured from the most environmentally friendly polymers currently available, the material is 100% reprocessed polypropylene co polymer with a carbon positive additive from UBQ.

The UBQ material is a thermoplastic composite converted from 100% unsorted household waste. UBQ is used to substitute plastics, minerals, and wood in thousands of everyday durable end-products. The use of UBQ in place of these materials diverts waste, prevents emissions, and reduces the net carbon footprint of final products.

The patented technology utilises the waste as feedstock for a multi-chamber reactor which breaks down organic waste to its basic particles, which are bonded and reattached with the mixed plastics in a new thermoplastic matrix. Through a proprietary process, the mixed waste stream – containing organic elements like food waste, garden trimmings, paper, cardboard, diapers, and packaging materials – is converted into an entirely homogeneous composite material that can be easily utilised in existing processes and machinery.

Versatote is currently the only UK based tote manufacturer offering products manufactured with the UBQ additive and is rightly proud to be at the forefront of cutting the environmental impact in the industry. Although the UBQ material adds cost to the manufacture of totes Versatote has decided to absorb this and sell its products containing the UBQ additive for the same price as its other reprocessed material based products.

As well as the new material Versatote has moved to a purpose built energy efficient manufacturing facility which has the latest injection moulding technology keeping energy usage as low as possible.

Also in 2022 the CSS Group (parent of Versatote) was awarded the silver medal by Ecovadis, The EcoVadis award covers four key areas for performance: environmental, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
