Doubled service life

SPINELLI GROUP has ordered a Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane for its terminal in Genoa.

The container handling operations will benefit from improved performance of this crane, which has doubled service life and improved eco-efficiency. The order was booked in July 2022 and the crane will be delivered in December.

The Spinelli Genoa Port Terminal (GPT) in Genoa focuses on container handling. With over 500,000 TEU annual throughput, it is the busiest terminal in Italy. The new crane will provide added capacity as container volumes continue to grow and its new technology will enhance both operational performance and energy efficiency.

“We’ve operated Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour cranes at the terminal since 2014, and now we’re ready to upgrade, so we’re very pleased to order the new Generation 6. With better performance, a doubled service life for container handling and improved eco-efficiency, we expect great things from the crane,” says Spinelli Group CEO Aldo Spinelli.

The new Generation 6 crane has a working radius of 61m and a capacity of 125t to serve vessels up to super-post-Panamax class.  It has an innovative Konecranes hybrid drive, consisting of a diesel engine that complies with EU Stage V emission standards paired with ultra-capacitors to provide additional power for heavy lifts. The ultra-capacitors are refilled by the collection of lowering and braking energy.
