Enhanced humidity control

Problems caused by poor humidity control in a large warehouse used for the storage of documentation and data tapes have been resolved by Humidity Solutions with a system that combines both humidification and dehumidification.

To cope with broad fluctuations in humidity, with extremes as high as 83% RH at 24°C, Integral, Humidity Solutions determined that both humidification and dehumidification would be required at different times of year to meet the design requirements of 45-55% RH at temperatures between 18 and 24°C.

Integral’s Spencer Collins comments: “Given the urgency of the situation we needed not just an effective solution but one that could be installed very quickly. Humidity Solutions responded swiftly and the equipment was manufactured, delivered and installed within five weeks. They also provided the installation service, with our support, and commissioning of the new system. Their ability to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution was critical in meeting the fast-track requirement of this project.”

The solution comprises a weatherproofed SKE 20kg/hr modulating Neptronic steam humidifier, retrofitted to the existing external air handling unit, along with four DFRD-060-E Fisair Desiccant dehumidifiers which were installed in the space.

The regeneration and extract grilles for the dehumidifiers are installed through the walls and the dry air is delivered in a way that ensures efficient distribution between data racks to create a stable and controlled environment.
