Sealed Air Europe has agreed a ground-breaking new deal with materials science company Ecovative to become exclusive licensee for the production, sales and distribution of Ecovative’s Mushroom Packaging in Europe.
Restore Mushroom Packaging is a new technology for rapidly renewable and environmentally responsible packaging materials made from agricultural byproducts and mycelium, or mushroom roots. It is a unique, completely biodegradable packaging solution and has already attracted major demand on the continent.
The innovative product is grown, not manufactured, using regionally sourced agricultural byproducts – the parts of crops that are not used for food or feed stock – then combined with mycelium in a low-energy process.
The agreement also forms a major part of Sealed Air’s SmartLife commitment, which aims to reduce waste throughout the supply chain and help customers achieve sustainability objectives by choosing solutions that do not sacrifice performance or cost competitiveness.
