High read rates

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

When items transported on pallets are scanned at sort points to route the pallets to the correct destination and scanned as they are moved in and out of trucks, challenges can occur in the form of unreliable placement of the label, reflective surfaces from stretch-wrap and individual labels on boxes interfering with code reading.

Specialist in barcode and camera vision integration, Acrovision, has overcome such issues by using the Cognex range of camera based barcode readers. Featuring omnidirectional scanning for reading barcodes in any orientation, they also have no moving parts that need replacing, decreasing maintenance costs.

In addition, Cognex’s proprietary Hotbars decoding technology is said to provide the highest read rates of 1-D linear barcodes, including those that are damaged, distorted, blurred, scratched, low contrast or placed behind shiny materials.
