Leaf chains
Available from chain manufacturer, iwis, leaf chains for moving loads consist of pins and plates, resulting in very high tensile strength. The Elite and iwis branded leaf chains move loads reliably, can be adapted to customer requirements and comply with European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
“By combining carefully selected materials and geometries and using modern production and assembly techniques, we are continually improving the technical characteristics of our leaf chains,” explains Daniel Voss, development and application manager with iwis in Munich.
“The chain’s side plates with their optimised geometry are precisely formed, heat-treated and shot-blasted. Their precise plate thickness ensures a high breaking strength. Improved press fits between pins and outer side plates result in chains with higher fatigue strength which is essential because the side plates take up an especially high proportion of the applied loads. Hardened pin surfaces increase both wear resistance and breaking strength, both of which are clearly above standard here.”
Leaf chains from iwis are available in several series: Series LL (F) comprises lightweight chains with European specifications to ISO 4347 and DIN 8152; series AL, also lightweight, with American specifications to DIN 8188 dimensions; and series LH (BL) leaf chains are reinforced and conform to American specifications to ISO 4347 and DIN 8152.
Special leaf chain versions are available to factory standard and with customised or standard anchor attachments and pear-drop plates. Leaf chains with plastic tube guides are also available as industry standards. Leaf chains are developed in close cooperation with the customers, and parameters such as wear analysis, fatigue testing and tensile analysis are continually monitored to ensure a consistent quality product.
